About me

Dr. Alfio Piva is a professor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Costa Rica and proudly highlights its academic relationship with the system of graduate and medical residency at the University of Costa Rica; an institution that has been the governing body for years in the academic development of medicine in Costa Rica.
Dr. Piva is a prominent neurosurgeon with an active surgical practice in surgery of the brain and spine, who has also completed formal training in Ophthalmology. This last is dedicated exclusively to the treatment of diseases of the eyelids, the orbit and neuro-ophthalmology.
In Neurosurgery Dr. Piva devotes special attention to the treatment of spine disease, brain and pituitary tumors. Dr. Piva has one of the most successful private practices in neurosurgery, offering the most advanced treatment techniques for disorders of the spine and brain.
He studied his graduate degree in the United States at the University of Southern California, and his years of study abroad not only provided invaluable academic contacts that have endured through the years, but also great friendships with teachers and colleagues who still admire his dedication to the meticulous care of his patients and passion for academics, and good medical practice.
